The functions of glycokalyx are cell communication, adherence and recognition. These processes are often driven by sugar binding lectins. A modified polymer with specific lectin ligands might lead to a better adherence and differentiation of stem cells. For a greater effect metabolic glycoengineered cells can be used. By feeding saccharides with bioorthogornal functions the cell surface can be modified in order to improve the adherence to the bio ink after the printing.
